ABOUT KATRINA
Dr. Gamble is a political scientist turned social impact strategist and the Founder and CEO of Sojourn Strategies, a Black woman-owned, all-women-run social impact consulting firm that drives advocacy campaigns, research, and philanthropic dollars toward equity, justice, and democracy.
Dr. Gamble brings more than 20 years of experience at the intersection of social justice policy, research, and advocacy, with deep expertise in voting rights and democracy, civic engagement, power building, and race and gender equity.
She is the author of the award-winning report Building Civic Homes: Fostering Belonging, Agency, and Collective Impact in Community Organizations and a co-author of groundbreaking Black Values research featured in The New York Times, Forbes, The L.A. Times, and other major outlets.
She has led more than half a dozen successful pro-democracy campaigns from Minnesota to Nevada. She also assisted in the development of the first-ever national prosecutor accountability hub – bringing together leaders nationwide committed to transforming the U.S. criminal justice system – which laid the groundwork for electing a number of progressive prosecutors from Philadelphia to St. Louis.
Her approach to the work is rigorous, inclusive, and non-extractive. Over the course of her career, she has developed relationships with grassroots organizations across the country, providing a perspective on the progressive movement and organizing ecosystem that is rooted in a genuine commitment to centering the voices of those closest to the work.
Before moving into the social advocacy space, Dr. Gamble was an Assistant Professor at Brown University, where she researched and taught classes on congressional politics, social movements, and race and ethnic politics. She has a PhD and an MA from Emory University and a BA from Smith College.
Katrina is from the desert southwest (Arizona) but currently lives in Washington, DC, with her wife. When she’s not tending to her garden in DC, she enjoys traveling and exploring other cultures; so far, she’s visited 52 countries.
